REHEARSALS

FOR MEMBERS

Attendance

  • Members should arrive on time for rehearsals and concert calls.

  • Regular rehearsals are any except the final three before a concert. A member may miss two regular rehearsals during a session. If a member must miss any rehearsal, they should contact their section leader, both to keep the section leader informed and to learn what they may have missed.

  • If a member misses more than two regular rehearsals, or any of the final three before a concert, their continued participation is at the discretion of the Artistic Director.

  • Regular rehearsals take place at the Vashon Presbyterian Church.

  • Concerts are in the Katherine L. White Hall at the Vashon Center for the Arts.

Etiquette

  • Use good judgment about attending if you are ill or contagious.

  • Silence cell phones.

  • Avoid fragrances or offensive odors.

  • Refrain from talking or singing another section's part.

  • Always bring a pencil, and use only pencil to mark scores.

  • Write your name on your scores.

  • No children allowed.

  • Watch the conductor!

  • Learn your part:

Commitment to Learning Parts

While section work is an inevitable part of choral rehearsal, rehearsal time is best used in learning and practicing how different parts fit together, not in teaching sections their parts. We can’t even start making music until parts are learned. Members must commit to working on their part at home by practicing independently and coming to rehearsals with their part prepared the best they can. Midi files are provided to help learn parts outside of rehearsal, and members should attend scheduled sectional rehearsals for dedicated section work.

Responsibilities

  • Members should promote concert ticket sales.

  • Members should know dates for all rehearsals and concerts.

  • Members must read email to stay current on communications from chorale leadership.

  • Members with concerns about Chorale should first contact their section leader. Section leaders serve as liaisons to the board and the Artistic Director.

  • Dues for each session average approximately $120 and include the purchase of music. Singers who already own sheet music for a piece and wish to reuse it may pay a reduced amount.

  • Scholarships are available for singers who require financial assistance with dues. Please contact Karen Baer for more information.

  • If you are undecided about whether to join, you may borrow music for the first two rehearsals. Do not mark borrowed scores. At the second trial rehearsal, you may either pay dues to join, or return unmarked scores to Karen.
