Assistant
Artistic
Director Marita Ericksen
Marita
Ericksen, Vashon Island Chorale’s Assistant Artistic Director (2007-present),
is a graduate of the
University
of
Alaska, with a degree in music education. She
has eleven years of music teaching experience in the University Place
and Vashon Island
School Districts. She has been the Musical/Artistic
Director of the Vashon Island Youth Chorus since September, 2000.
Marita is presently Director of Worship Arts at Bethel
Church, Vashon. Other positions she has
held include Music Director of Vashon Voices, Director of Vashon Island Singers
(now Vashon Island Chorale), choral director of various summer music camps,
church choir director (30+ years) and program director for "Opera in the
Schools" at Vashon, Lake Chelan, Manson, and Holden Village,
WA. This fall, she begins leading the
Teen Musical Theater Project, with “Little Women”, scheduled for
performances in early 2009. In
October, 2008, she will perform in a VAA New Works project with Andy and
Jennifer Krikawa, Joe Farmer, and Evan Stoltz at the Blue Heron.
