Vashon Island Chorale was established in 1989 and is dedicated to the promotion of fine choral music in the Vashon community. Membership in the group is open without audition. Major works performed by the Vashon Island Chorale have included Handel’s ‘Messiah,’ (Christmas portion), the Bruckner ‘Te Deum,’ the Mozart ‘Requiem’ (9/11 Memorial ‘Rolling Requiem’ concert), the Vivaldi ‘Gloria’ and ‘Magnificat,’ Britten’s ‘A Ceremony of Carols,’ and the John Rutter ‘Magnificat,’ among others. Spring 2006 saw a performance of the Fauré ‘Requiem’ and Lux Aeterna by Morten Lauridsen. The 2006 winter concert featured John Rutter’s ‘Mass of the Children.’ In our Spring 2007 concert we performed the Kodaly ‘Missa Brevis’ and Bach’s Cantata ‘Christ Lag in Todesbanden.’ Membership in the Chorale is open to all who are interested in singing great music, without audition. The Chorale varies in size from 50 to 80 members from year to year. Skill levels vary from dedicated amateur to ‘semi-pro’ and professional musicians. Ability to sight read is helpful but not required. Dedication to hard work and having fun is a must. The Chorale rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 7:15 to 9:15.
